Fundamentals: Configurable

The last of the three fundamentals, is that ICE Health Systems is configurable.

Configurable means that:

The system is built with configuration in mind.

  • Configuration is part of the system, not a separate add-on that you have to create yourself.
  • We consider configuration during the development of all new features and improvements.
  • You can make configuration changes yourself in Practice Settings. You don't have to submit a request for us to update configuration that changes a few weeks or months later.

Configuration is flexible.

  • You can change and refine your configuration choices as you learn the system.
  • Part of the implementation process is safely exploring a test environment to see how different configuration choices affect your experience.
  • There are multiple ways to achieve the same goals. Configuration is a part of that planning process.

You can keep it simple.

  • Of course there is lots you can configure, but it can be overwhelming to talk about it all at once.
  • It's helpful to explore the system and workflows first, knowing that the configuration is there waiting for you, and then you can revisit Practice Settings afterwards with more confidence.
  • You can keep your configuration choices simple as well.
    • Not everyone needs super complex templated forms with branching questions for every patient interaction or 25 appointment types when 6 will do.
    • We can provide starter configuration templates suitable for different clinics, specialities, research interests, etc.

These examples of what a configurable system enables can change how you approach your role as an expert or new user.

When you are completing the core activities — learning, brainstorming, and resolving — keep these examples in mind or refer back to this list.
