Explore the system

Welcome! You've made the exciting decision to start using ICE Health Systems and we're here to get you started on your journey.

There's a lot you can do in the system and it can feel overwhelming to login for the first time. Let's build a strong foundation that you can rely on as you become an ICE Health Systems expert.

⏱ The activities should take 5 to 15 minutes to complete.

πŸ“£ Before you start make sure you have:

  • A username and password to an ICE Health Systems environment.
  • Optional: an activity handout PDF to keep track of your progress, focus on the activities, and record questions or interesting points for future reference.

πŸ“– Key terms introduced or important in the training.

  • Dashboard The starting point for the Practice, Provider, and Patient menus. Dashboards can display different panel views that show information and tools relevant to different job roles.
  • Provider Any person that has the ability to log in and use the system. It is similar to the term "user".

πŸ’‘ Support materials if you have questions or want to know more as you're exploring.

To give you an idea of what you'll be learning before you start the activities, watch the Navigate the system video. It provides an overview of the layout and navigation options inside the system.

Exploration time

First things first, let's make sure you can log into the system.

Task 1: Log in
  1. Log in to your server
  2. Confirm your username and password

Let's explore the system by starting with your dashboard. The Provider Dashboard displays information relevant to you and it is where everyone starts when they first log in. The term provider refers to any person that has the ability to log in and use the system. Providers aren't just clinicians, they could be front desk, IT support, or billing staff as well. It is similar to the term "user".

You'll use the menus above your workspace to find and use different tools. The Practice, Provider, and Patient menus will be the ones you use the most.

Task 2: Explore
  1. Explore the menus at the top of the screen and try to figure out the differences between the top menu and the sub-menus

Since this is an Electronic Health Record, you'll probably need to know how to open a patient record.

Task 3: View Patient
  1. If you haven't already, find and open a patient record
  2. Confirm whether or not they have an address and phone number recorded

There you have it. That's all there is to know about getting around the system. Since you're a navigation expert now, let's try something a little more difficult.

Learn on the run

When you're in the middle of a busy day, it's easy to forget what you learned in training. Fortunately there are lots of support materials that you can quickly open from inside of the system. Since we're just starting, let's use a help article to learn something completely new.

Task 4: Find Help
  1. Figure out how to launch the Help site inside the system
  2. Find an article in the help site about how to send a message to other people inside the system
  3. Send a message to a colleague telling them that you're learning how to use the system. Hopefully they're available to respond!

The learning explorer

You've explored the system and used the Help site to learn something new!

Before you pick the next topic to explore, consider the following questions:

  • How can you incorporate the Help site into your daily work?
  • What questions do you have about navigating ICE Health Systems and accessing help?

Write down your answers for future reference or bring them to your next training session.

Next steps

When you're working:

  • The next time you need to learn something new during the workday, launch the Help site from inside the system and find a related article or video.
